Redrick ErgoHome Workstation Review
The ErgoHome Series from Redrick is a workstation that is designed for radiologists working at home. The workstation’s stand out features include the flexible monitor mount, the adjustable desk height (24”-49.5”), cable management, and thoughtful extras. Here is our review.
The team at Redrick has been making ergonomic workstations for healthcare professionals for over twenty years – particularly for radiologists. They have a reputation for innovative, well-designed solutions.
When Redrick invited the Healthcare IT Today team to go to their facility to check out their new ErgoHome Series, we jumped at the chance to do an in-depth review.
Key Takeaways
- The degree of adjustability of the ErgoHome workstation is impressive. It can meet the needs of any healthcare professional working at home. The desk height, monitor height, monitor angle, and even the ambient lighting is easily controllable by the end-user.
- The workstation offers a clean, uncluttered workspace. There are no dangling wires thanks to great cable management. The desk is a single contiguous surface and does not have multiple tiers like other radiology workstations do.
- The attention to detail is notable. The materials are high quality with nice finishes. The motors on each of the legs is robust. There are even small nice-to-haves on the desk like a USB hub and wireless charging pad.
More Healthcare Professionals are Working From Home
According to McKinsey’s 2024 American Opportunity Survey, the number of healthcare professionals that choose to work from home is increasing. Their survey found:
- 31% of healthcare support staff have the option to work from home and on average they do so 2.8 days each week
- 27% of healthcare practitioners/technical staff have the option to work from home and on average they do so 2.6 days each week
Radiology, pathology, and other roles that do not require constant patient interaction can be more easily transitioned to hybrid working (split between in-office and at-home work).
To work at home, these healthcare professionals need more than the desks you can buy at the local office supply store or furniture retailer. Radiologists and pathologists, use heavy-duty monitors and need ways to minimize eye fatigue during their lengthy time at their desks.
Redrick designed their ErgoHome Series of workstations to meet the needs of this market and to capitalize on the growing work-at-home trend.
Adjustable Monitor Mount
The most notable feature of the ErgoHome workstation is the way the monitors are mounted to an adjustable arm and do not sit directly on the desk surface.
This monitor mount is completely adjustable by the end-user. The entire monitor array can be moved in/out, angled, and raised/lowered independent of the desk. This means the end-user can position the monitors in the ideal place for their working style…and change it easily when needed.
Up to 4 monitors can be mounted, and the unit can handle up to 85lbs. It accepts VESA 75 and 100 compatible monitors.
The monitor array can be raised and lowered a total of 12” at the touch of a button. This means the monitors can be adjusted to the ideal viewing angle for tall and shorter people.
Height-Adjustable Work Surface
The desktop on the ErgoHome workstation is very large – 72” wide x 36” deep. That is a lot of workspace for healthcare professionals.
The height of the workstation can be adjusted from 24” all the way up to 49.5”. This means that you can work either sitting down or standing up. It also means that the workstation can be adjusted to match any chair that the user has at home.
The motors on each leg of the workstation are very robust and can lift up to 350lbs – more than enough for all the monitors, computer, keyboard and paperwork that an at-home healthcare professional would need.
Many Nice Touches on the ErgoHome Workstation
From the packaging to the finishes on the materials, it is clear the Redrick team put a lot of thought into the design of the ErgoHome Series.
The best evidence of this is the cable management system that is integrated into the workstation. All long the bottom of the worksurface and on the arms of the monitor mount, are channels for all the USB, HDMI, and other wires. When the workstation is fully set up, there are no dangling wires anywhere to be seen. This is important for healthcare professionals who need to maintain a high level of concentration and productivity. Clutter = distraction.
Other nice touches we noticed during our review of the ErgoHome Workstation:
- It arrives flat-packed. This minimizes material waste and ensures the workstation will fit through the doorways of any home.
- It is easy and quick to put together. We assembled our demonstration workstation in just over 30 minutes. The instructions and pre-drilled holes make everything easy.
- The ambient light strip really helps to reduce eye strain and gives the workstation a very modern (“cool”) look
Small Improvements for the Next Version
The ErgoHome workstation is impressive. It more than meets the needs of work-at-home healthcare professionals (especially radiologists and pathologists).
There are just two small suggestions we have for future versions:
- The color of the LED light strip at the back of the desk can be adjusted from dark blue to white. In a future version we would love to see a full RGB light so that end users can choose a color that matches their décor or personal preference.
- The optional USB Hub only has 3 USB-A connections. We would like to see a mix of USB-A and USB-C connections and more of them.
Overall Impression of Redrick’s ErgoHome Workstation
The Healthcare IT Today team was very impressed with the ErgoHome Workstation. It is well-made, well-designed, and addresses the needs of healthcare professionals who want to work at home – particularly radiologists and pathologists.
The ErgoHome is a clear upgrade from the adjustable height desks that you find at popular retailers. It even stands out amongst other radiology workstations that we have seen – with its completely flat desk surface and fully adjustable monitor mount.
The ErgoHome Series Workstation is excellent.
