To RSNA24 We Will Go – AI, AI, Oh!
Healthcare IT Today once again attended the annual RSNA conference in Chicago, IL and once again the event was filled with interesting sessions and innovations. It was no surprise that AI utter dominated the discussions and the booths. We had to dig deep to find companies doing interesting (and meaningful) things with AI in radiology, but we found them!
Here are our daily recaps of #RSNA24
RSNA24 Day 1 Summary – The CUTEST Radiology Solution Ever!
Today was all about catching up with companies and connections from prior RSNA conferences. I had the opportunity to visit with Shez Partovi at Philips, Rishi Nayyar and Ram Chadalavada at PocketHealth, Nicholas T. Befera, MD at SCANSLATED, and Josh Patrick at RedRick Technologies.
I also got a demo of THE CUTEST radiology solution that I have ever seen. It is a playful Kitten Scanner that teaches children what to expect when they arrive for their imaging appointment. It reduces anxiety and helps minimize sedation. Bradley Jesse from Philips was kind enough to give me a demo.
RSNA24 Day 2 Summary – Eye-popping Radiology Statistics

But the big “a-ha” moment came during the Lunch & Learn from PocketHealth where the panel presented some eye-popping radioloty statistics: (a) 80% of providers are still using CDs to share imaging (b) 60% of recommended imaging is not followed up on Watch our summary of Day 2 at RSNA24.
RSNA24 Day 3 Summary – All About Efficiency
Day 3 at #RSNA24 was all about exploring the interesting technologies and innovations on display in the exhibit hall.
I had the chance to tour through two different mobile imaging centers. One from TDC Trailer was a 10ft wide trailer on wheels. The solution from Akumin® was radically different – a more modular semi-permanent structure that could be transported. Thanks to Joshua Seyler at Akumin for the tour.
I also had the opportunity to chat with other innovators like
- Jitesh S. Ghai, CEO of Hyland
- Amit S Phadnis, CTO of RapidAI
- Jim Salamon, National Sales Leader at LG Business Solutions USA
- Sara Osberger and Jeanmarie Rogers at FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation
Was there a common theme to these conversations? YES! Everyone is working to make radiology more efficient…which is a good thing.
RSNA24 Day 4 Summary – Patient Centered Radiology
It is bittersweet that #RSNA24 is coming to a close.
The highlight of today was connecting with Dr. Ravi Bickram Shrestha from Canon Medical Systems. He walked us through the entire patient journey from image capture to diagnosis and how Canon is working to make it easier, smoother, and better. We were floored (excuse the pun) by the design of an imaging suite where the Canon devices move around the patient rather than the other way around.
We also had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Bernardo Bizzo from the American College of Radiology on the work they are doing to validate AI for radiology. Special thanks to Vijay Ramanathan from RamSoft and Mark Pavlakovich from MedInformatix for sharing their thoughts on the conference with us.
