CEO of Greenway sets Company on a Bold Path
Greenway Health’s CEO, Pratap Sarker, made several bold statements at the company’s annual user group meeting and has set the organization on an aggressive path forward. One of his promises was that all future innovations from Greenway would be based on AI.
Healthcare IT Today had the opportunity to sit down with Sarker shortly after his opening keynote to dive deeper into the promises he made.
Bold Statements from Greenway
Sarker began his keynote by recapping the progress the Greenway team made over the past two years to stabilize the platform, improve reliability, and be more responsive to the needs of clients.
“The past 3 years have been the most productive at Greenway,” said Sarker. “We have launched many new products. We have worked hard on the stability and reliability of our platform.”
Sarker’s statements are a direct response to the commitments he made at the 2022 user group meeting (for details see Re-establishing Confidence in Greenway is Job One for CEO Pratap Sarker)
Sarker then made a series of bold statements in his keynote:
- All new innovations from Greenway will be underpinned by generative AI moving forward
- It is time for us to get even more aggressive on rolling out needed features, interoperability, and cybersecurity
- Cybersecurity is what keeps me up at night and that’s why we have rapidly rolled out enhancements in this area and we will continue to do that because it is CRITICAL
- We want to be the most respected EHR on the market
- We will be aggressively increasing our market share
Greenway is leaning into and leveraging AI
Like other EHR vendors, Greenway is leaning into AI and has plans to incorporate the technology into its platform. However, Sarker went further with his commitment that every Greenway innovation moving forward will leverage AI.
During the interview Sarker revealed that he is a fan of the technology and has invested countless hours with numerous paid-for AI platforms to learn first-hand how they can be used effectively. Those insights have helped him motivate his team to use AI to accelerate internal operations and deliver more features to clients.
Greenway is Using AI Internally
“The executive leadership team at Greenway uses ambient voice solutions to record and summarize our meetings,” shared Sarker. “Not only do we have an ongoing record of what was discussed, all of us now have hands-on knowledge of what the technology is capable of.”
The experience of using an ambient voice solution means the entire Greenway team has empathy for clinicians who are trying to use the same technology at their practices.
In addition, Greenway has taken all their internal documentation (30 years worth) as well as documentation found in the product code itself and used it to train an internal version of ChatGPT. Their internal support teams are now using it to get answers quickly for clients. Soon, Greenway clients themselves will be able to tap into this AI-powered support tool.
Greenway has partnered with AWS HealthLake
Sarker shared that Greenway is using AWS HealthLake as the foundation of the company’s own proprietary large language model (LLM).
“We now store all our clinical and operational data in a completely secure and segmented manner in AWS HealthLake,” said Sarkar. “At this point, the only limiting factor is our imagination. Clinical decision support is the holy grail and now it can become real because we have all that data to provide very precise diagnoses.”
That is something the company will be working towards over the next few years.
Greenway to Take Back Market Share
All the work and investments over the past several years has given Sarker the confidence to be bolder and now he is planning to seize market share from his competitors.
“Greenway 2.0 is going to be powered by generative AI and driven by our core purpose and our values,” stated Sarker. “Not only are we back, we are coming back in a very aggressive and strong way. We are going to take back market share. Most importantly, we will create solutions that bring smiles back to the faces of our clients.”
