Doctor and Nurse One Liners – Fun Friday

Doctor and Nurse One Liners – Fun Friday

Happy Friday everyone!  We hope you had an amazing week.  It’s time again for another edition of Fun Friday where we hope to make you smile as you head into your weekend.

There’s nothing like a good one liner.  The only time I feel bad is for my wife and kids who have heard my one liners too many times.  Of course, doctors and nurses have their own one liners as was illustrated by Dr. Clement Lee in this thread on X.  Here are a few of them that made me laugh.

@ClementLeeMD When I have patients close their eyes to check pronator drift, I say “Great, I’ll be back in 20 minutes.”

@ClementLeeMD Outside the office …

I’m the kind of doctor you don’t want to see …

@ClementLeeMD here is mine with lots of gems in the comments:

@ClementLeeMD I tell patients to stick their tongue out, then I look at the mucous membranes, then I tell them it’s not nice to stick their tongues out at people. My older patients in particular think it’s funny.

— Gretchen Winter, MD 🌼 (Warning: Feral) (@gretchemaben) August 26, 2026

@ClementLeeMD When asked why I became a doctor, I reply that I wanted to be a mechanic but faint at the sight of oil

— Dr. Doug Eyolfson (@DougEyolfson) August 27, 2026

@ClementLeeMD When I go to start an IV and patients are so nervous and say ‘I can’t look’. I tell them neither will I and they turn to look at me so shocked whilst I’m already finishing the IV. Usually their support person sits there laughing.

— CrystaS (@crystal_siwak) August 26, 2026

@ClementLeeMD Used to joke with certain patients (that I knew well enough to know they could take the joke) just prior to putting them to sleep for elective cardioversion; “if they see a bright light-DO NOT walk toward it!”

— DrJoe (@joseph_britz) August 26, 2026

@ClementLeeMD “that’s boring which is the way we like it”

When they lightheartedly say “so, I’m gonna live then?” I reply “well not forever”

— Dr. Mark (@canlungdoc) August 26, 2026

@ClementLeeMD When taking off EKG leads or other tape on a hairy area I say “free wax job” and it usually gets a chuckle
