MUSE 2026 – The Magic of a User-Led Conference

What happens when a user group conference is actually organized by real users? You get an event that feels more like a reunion.

This event has been on my radar for a long time. MEDITECH users formed MUSE, Medical Users Software Exchange, back in 1983. It remains a rare community in healthcare where users are in control of the discussion and not the company whose technology they all use.

At the annual MUSE conference, users from across the country gather to share best practices. The 2026 MUSE Conference (labelled Inspire) was held recently in Chicago, IL.

While I was there, I spoke to many of MEDITECH’s partners in the exhibit hall and captured over 20 “hot takes” from attendees. “Heart” is definitely the word that comes to mind as I reflect on my first time at this conference.

Key Takeaways

  1. AI scribes remain a hot topic.
  2. MEDITECH presence was significant and welcome.
  3. Deep integration on display by MEDITECH partners.

The Staying Power of AI Scribes

I thought AI scribes were old news, but I was happily wrong. They dominated the conversations at this year’s event. Users aren’t just piloting them; they are pushing the technology into operational areas like oncology, orthopedics, and behavioral health. Best of all, attendees honestly shared where deployments succeeded and where things didn’t go well.

MEDITECH Shows Up

The MEDITECH team brought lots of support, sending over 30 representatives. Executives Michelle O’Connor (President & CEO) and Helen Waters (EVP and COO) took live questions from the crowd and answered them beautifully. Highlights included Expanse Now for third-party AI scribe integration, and Ask Expanse, a true ambient AI assistant. They also rolled out several core EHR enhancements.

Integration and… Puppies!

The exhibit hall featured over 70 partners focused on deep integration with MEDITECH. The absolute showstopper? Actual tiny puppies in the puppy park. Attendees also loved the tactile “poster pathway,” which successfully brought the intimate sharing of small peer group meetings to the big stage.

The Bottom Line

The team at Muse International organized a fantastic event. The organizers were highly visible and engaging with attendees. It is clear when users drive the conversation, you get an event that feels like a true community.
