From Patient Outreach to Patient Engagement at IKS Health
In our recent interview at the AMGA 2026 conference, Mayank Pant, Executive Vice President of Product Management at IKS Health, focuses on making patient engagement effective. IKS Health covers the entire “patient journey from schedule to cash,” introducing automation and AI where they can improve the experience and cut the time wasted by patients and staff alike.
Pant observes that in health care, “outreach sometimes masquerades as engagement.” In other words, a lot of phone calls and text messages might be generated, but the outcome doesn’t improve. IKS Health uses AI to analyze the behavior of many patients and determine why a particular patient might cancel or miss an appointment. Reducing these missed appointments, in this case, is the goal of engagement.
Most patient engagement systems lack effectiveness, he says, because their based simply on what’s in medical records rather than analyzing actual behavior and trying to understand patient motivations.
Pant also mentions working with prior authorization, which he says “punctuates the care journey” and slows down care.
One of their improvements to health care scheduling and intake is to grant a “swift pass” to a patient after getting patient information. The patient can then bypass the time-consuming intake procedure, like specially registered travelers at airport security, and get appointments more quickly over the next few months.
