Harmony Healthcare IT Focuses on Maintaining Data Across Mergers
One-fifth of all the health care institutions in the U.S. were involved in mergers and acquisitions between 2015 and 2020. Harmony Healthcare IT helps firms through the data management aspect of a merger, especially with data conversion and archiving.
In a a recent interview with Healthcare IT Today, Chief Revenue Officer Sharon Cook points out that acquiring companies are hoping to achieve cost reductions that go beyond merely reducing administrative staff and computer systems. They require “synergy” between the two merging companies, and that requires them to merge their data accurately.
Cook advises managers to think “strategically” about their archiving and other data management needs before the merger. Most providers want to use AI tools, but in some cases they have trouble getting doctors to actually use the AI tools. This might be because the data that the AI tools depend on is inaccurate or unavailable because it’s stored in a legacy system that’s not available. Appropriately archiving that legacy system can make that data available to the AI tool which improves the tool for doctors.
Some other issues involving old systems is that they are insufficiently secure and compliant. Managers must ensure that patient data is both secure and easy to access at the moment of patient care. The cost of legacy systems goes well beyond the ongoing licensing costs when a breach of a legacy system occurs.
Harmony Healthcare IT supports migrating and archiving all the major EHR vendors and many smaller ones as well as a number of ancillary systems. Cook also shared with us about the company’s recent acquisition of Blue Elm, which offers tools for “data extraction, access, and integrity” specically focused on MEDITECH.
