Greenway’s Reality Check on Manual Data Exchange and Shrinking Roadmaps

The pace of change in health IT has outgrown traditional multi-year roadmaps. In an exclusive sit-down interview at the Greenway Health User Conference (#Engage2025), David Cohen, Chief Product and Technology Officer explained why the company is shifting to shorter delivery cycles to stay aligned with what ambulatory practices need right now. One example is provider–payer data exchange, where manual workflows continue to create friction and are pushing vendors like Greenway to move faster and deliver sooner.

Provider–Payer Data Exchange and the Pace Problem

“Today, that’s something a lot of our customers are doing manually,” Cohen said, describing how practices handle payer requests for patient records. “They get information requests for patient records, whether it’s for retrieval of information or chart auditing. In many cases, that’s a manual request.”

Legal reviews, workers’ compensation, and payer audits all stack onto the same workflow. This is where Greenway’s partnership with Moxe enters the picture, aimed at automating provider-to-payer data retrieval and giving practices visibility into where their data is shared.

At the same time, the clock has sped up. “It wasn’t long ago when everyone was talking about three and five-year product roadmaps,” Cohen said. “But now we’re talking about six and twelve-month roadmaps. The pace of innovation and the expectations around that pace have changed dramatically.”

Bottom line: healthcare customers expect their vendors to be true partners and help them meet the needs of the moment. Right now, that means accelerating the pace of product updates.

As Cohen put it plainly, “Every vendor has got great ideas, but who’s actually going to be able to deliver those ideas and deliver them at pace?”
