Predictive AI FHIR Integration Contest – Win $25k in Prizes

One of the most common questions we get from healthcare IT startups is how they can connect with EHR vendors. One of our most common questions we ask health IT startups is how they integrate with the EHR. One of the answers to this question for startup companies is FHIR. Certainly the FHIR standard is still maturing to include more data, but the data in the current FHIR standards can solve a lot of data access challenges for startup companies. If the data your startup needs is in FHIR, then the great thing is that pretty much every certified EHR can support FHIR access to that data (thanks EHR certification).

With this as background, I was excited to learn about a new Predictive AI in Healthcare with FHIR contest that’s being held by the FHIR experts at Darena Solutions. The contest is pretty simple. Predictive AI app developers just have to leverage the MeldRx platform to connect their application using SMART on FHIR to healthcare systems.

The great news is that there are $25,000 in cash prizes available for the winners of the contest. Plus, there are a number of in-kind prizes available including from Healthcare IT Today. The grand prize winner will be featured in a video interview on Healthcare IT Today ($4200 value).

The contest also will be awarding an early entry “Best of ViVE – User Choice” prize of $2,000 based on voting at the Darena Solutions booth (#750) at ViVE where they will be featuring early entries. That’s right. Your application will be featured at ViVE and you’ll get a chance to win an early $2,000 if you get your submissions in quickly. We’ll also be doing a short video with the winner of the Best of ViVE which we’ll feature on the Healthcare IT Today social media channels.

To learn more details about the contest, I sat down with Patrick Schiess, President & CISO at Darena Solutions. In our interview, Schiess shared some of the genesis and goals behind the contest, details on the prizes and prize money, and details for what’s required to enter the contest. He also dives into some of the predictive AI use cases that would make sense for the contest. This includes clinical, operational, and financial use cases to name a few.
