Epic EHR Hosting and Moving Beyond Disaster Recovery to Resiliency with Rackspace
The shift from hosting Epic in your own data center to now hosting Epic in the cloud has been amazing to watch. For the longest time, no one would even consider hosting Epic in the cloud. Not even Epic. However, Epic and its customers have shifted their mindset in a big way and now it seems that everyone is hosting Epic in the cloud or moving that direction.
In order to learn more about this important topic, I sat down to talk with Jason Jones, Global Senior Client Executive – Strategic Accounts at Rackspace Technology, and Jack Crowley, Senior Director and General Manager – Healthcare Private Cloud at Rackspace Technology, to learn from their experience as the largest third party hosting provider of Epic.
In the interview below, we talk about Rackspace’s entry into the Epic EHR hosting and some of what it takes to host Epic properly. We discuss how Epic is a full ecosystem of applications that need to be hosted properly for it to function well. One of the keys they highlight is having the specific expertise needed to run Epic in the cloud. While Rackspace has been providing data center and hosting services for a long time including many healthcare applications, Epic is more complicated and mission critical to the organization. So, you have to have the expertise to do it right.
Going beyond Epic, Jones and Crowley also shared how Rackspace can help a healthcare organization that wants to move other applications to the cloud. Plus, we talk with them about what trends they’re seeing in the healthcare market and the shift we see in healthcare from just having a DR (disaster recover) approach to ensuring resiliency to multiple forms of disaster.
Check out our interview with Rackspace to learn more about their work hosting Epic in the cloud and their efforts to provide a resilient infastructure for healthcare applications.
