Healthcare Startups Shine at Collision 2024
Innovative startups in the health IT, medical device, and biotech fields were among the shining stars at the annual Collision conference.
Healthcare IT Today had the opportunity to catch up with several interesting company leaders including Dolma Tsundu from Flutter Care, Eunice Wu from Asepha, and Marc Paderon from Pontosense. These companies stood out with their pragmatic, resourceful, and nimble approach to solving healthcare challenges.
Key takeaways
- Healthcare startups had some of the most interesting and well-rounded solutions at Collision 2024
- Panelists stressed differentiation as the key to success during this uncertain economic times
- Collision 2024 was smaller than in years past and it was better – more space = more engagement
The annual Collision conference attracts entrepreneurs from around the world for three days of pitch competitions, meetings with potential investors, and interesting educational sessions. The 2024 conference was held in Toronto, ON for the final time. In 2025 the conference heads to its new home in Vancouver, BC under its new banner – WebSummit Vancouver.
This year’s conference felt smaller compared to prior years – and that was a good thing. Having fewer people and wider aisles meant it was possible to spend more than 30s with interesting company founders.
The Healthcare IT Today team visited with many of the healthcare startups. If these startups are a signal of the direction of healthcare innovation, then the future is very bright.
The healthcare solutions on display at Collision 2024 were grounded, practical, and backed by dedicated teams who understood how long it takes to become an overnight success in the healthcare industry. This is in stark contrast to prior years when there were too many pie-in-the-sky companies who had unrealistic success forecasts.
This year’s crop of companies are chasing the right thing – customer validation and early adoption rather than the next round of funding.
